Collaborating projects
Collaborations with other projects and initiatives are of vital importance for the D4Science-II project. First, the realization of an ecosystem requires the adoption of standards and appropriate technological solutions that simplify the interoperability among its different components. Exchanges of experiences and solutions among e-Infrastructure projects can largely speed up the achievement of this objective.
Secondly, collaboration is an inherent aspect of an ecosystem. e-Infrastructures taking part in the ecosystem are expected to open the access to their resources and require D4Science services to complement their own. Increasing collaborations beyond those initially planned will enable a dynamic growth and evolution of the ecosystem and a progressive enrichment of the global support offered to its users.
Finally, outreach and dissemination play a key role in enlarging participation in the ecosystem and in attracting new users. Collaborations with projects that offer D4Science opportunities for promoting its outcomes facilitate the wide outreach which is necessary to progressively enlarge the ecosystem.
These are the collaborations established by D4Science-II with other projects and initiatives in the period October 2009 - July 2010. These are grouped into the following clusters:
• Technological projects. This cluster projects which either develop technologies that could be exploited by D4Science-II or that could use the D4Science-II developed ones (e.g. EMI, gMan, VENUS-C).
• Ecosystem components. It comprises projects and initiatives that have agreed to collaborate with D4Science-II to start-up the core of a knowledge ecosystem (e.g. 4D4Life & i4Life, DRIVER-II, GENESI-DEC, INSPIRE, OBIS, OpenAIRE, SDMX). Some of these collaborations were already included in the D4Science-II Description of Work while others have been established in the course of the project.
• Coordination actions and networking initiatives. It includes other EU projects and initiatives addressing aspects complementary to the technological one, like exploitation, outreach and sustainability. Co-operation with projects like DL.org, BELIEF-II, DC-NET, OGF-Europe and the new coordination Action GRDI2020, largely facilitates D4Science-II networking and dissemination. D4Science-II exploits the facilities offered by these projects to disseminate its outcomes, while these projects benefit from the contribution that D4Science-II partners can bring to discussions on e-Infrastructures topics.
• Other projects and initiatives. It includes other collaborations of different types with projects and organisations which have been recently contacted by – or have contacted – D4Science-II in order to perform common actions or exploit each other results.
