D4Science production infrastructure upgrade using the latest gCube release 1.4

The D4Science production infrastructure has been upgraded to the latest gCube release 1.4. This upgrade directly enhanced all Virtual Research Environments (VRE) currently deployed in the infrastructure.

The deployment of gCube release 1.4 brings several improvements to the D4Science infrastructure services:

• Support to time series data;
• Management of ontologies;
• Search in metadata collections of single content collection;
• Support for indexes incremental update.

This release also introduces a number of improvements in the end-user interfaces:

• Time series management portlet: management of a workflow to import, curate, and publish time series resources;
• gPod portlet: integration with geospatial portlet and new authorization mechanism;
• Ontology management portlet: ontologies importing into a VRE and ontologies annotation of objects;
• User profile editing portlet: new portlet design;
• Report/template generator portlets: support for structured templates, possibility to export in OpenXML, and HTML.

With the deployment of release 1.4 in production and to satisfy the Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Management (FARM) requirements on integrated capture information systems, a new VRE has been created. This new environment has been called Integrated Capture Information System (ICIS) VRE and is available through the D4Science portal to all FARM community members.
