Digital Repositories – Linked Open Data – the possible Role of D4Science
During December 16 and 17 the workshop "Digital Repositories - Linked Open Data - the Possible Role of D4Science" was held at FAO headquarters in Rome. The aim was to examine solutions to publishing digital repositories as linked open data using advanced tools such as the D4Science Virtual Research environments.
Participants representing a variety of fields and topics were invited, from repository managers to linked data experts, to create a broad overview of the topic and study the different solutions currently used within organizations.
The highlighted points that were discussed are the following:
* Triplification of big databases with heterogeneous data,
* Disambiguation of data from huge metadata repositories
* Creation and maintenance of URIs for linked data
* Establishment of automatic links between distributed data sources
* Targeted crawling of unstructured web material and automatic semantic mark up,
* Use of (open source) LOD. publishing tools and RDF stores
* Parallel processing power
