D4Science 4th Technical Committee meeting in Switzerland

4th TComThe 4th Technical Committee (TCom) meeting took place between the 8-12 of September in Basel, Switzerland. The meeting was hosted by the Departement Informatik of the University of Basel (http://informatik.unibas.ch/).

A D4Science TCom event is a face-to-face meeting which aims to collectively address any technical issues that arise along the course of the project and to define a concrete plan to properly address them. It is open and flexible, i.e. besides technical partners the whole consortium is potentially invited to attend dependent on the topics to be discussed.

This TCom event primarily focused on outlining the steps needed to meet the forthcoming release of all the expected Virtual Research Environments (VREs), i.e. ImpECt, FCCPS and ICIS (November 2008). It consisted of 56 slots (50 minutes each) some of them occurring in parallel, and discussing the following topics:

  • gCube services: status and future work;
  • Service Activities: status and plan;
  • Software and Services (e.g. VREs) Exploitation: feedback;
  • gCore: usage experiences and next release;
  • User requirements: ICIS and AquaMaps;
  • User requirements: status and plan;
  • Dissemination and Training Activities.

Together with the TCom event, a Project Executive Board (PEB) meeting took place. During this meeting the current activities and status of each work package were presented since the D4science project began 9 months ago.

10 out of 11 participating organisations joined the event with a full total of 20 persons in attendance.
