European Leadership

The D4Science e-Infrastructure was in a privileged position to act as the driving force behind the formation of the envisioned Knowledge Ecosystem. Given its layered approach to infrastructure building, it conveniently mediated access to the computational facilities of the underlying EGEE infrastructure and, in turn, the connectivity fabric of the GEANT infrastructure.

Scientists around the globe were drawn to the ecosystem for their own work while other ecosystems were formed based on the techniques developed in the project, if not the D4Science e-Infrastructure and software itself. This increased and reinforced the European leadership in the relevant technologies as well as the impact and global relevance of the D4Sience e-Infrastructure and the ecosystem based on it as a unique platform for supporting science.
