gCubeD4Science serves mainly scientific communities but gCube, the service-based system that operates the infrastructure, is unbiased in supporting collaborations across diverse research disciplines.



Release of the version 1.5 of the gCube software

gCubeThe new version of the gCube software, version 1.5, has been released on 20 November 2009. This release consolidates the previous version. It adds new functionalities and includes a number of improvements related to the system stability.



D4Science production infrastructure upgrade using the latest gCube release 1.4

The D4Science production infrastructure has been upgraded to the latest gCube release 1.4. This upgrade directly enhanced all Virtual Research Environments (VRE) currently deployed in the infrastructure.

D4Science Training on Infrastructure and Virtual Organisations Management

D4Science training eventThe 1st D4Science training event for e-Infrastructure administrators and Virtual Organization managers took place in ESA/ESRIN premises, Frascati (Italy) on 7-9 October 2009. The 3-day event, attended by around 15 participants, covered all steps required for the creation of a distributed e-Infrastructure, starting from basic machine resources deployment to the instantiation of a Virtual Research Environment.



Paper presented at the 13th European Conference on Digital Libraries

ECDL 2009A paper titled "Functional Adaptivity for Digital Library Services in e-Infrastructures: The gCube Approach" was accepted for the 13th European Conference on Digital Libraries, ECDL 2009, held in Corfu, Greece in the period 27 September - 02 October 2009. It was presented by Fabio Simeoni (University of Strathclyde) during the Special Session on Infrastructures on 29 September 2009.



D4Science at EGEE'09 Conference

EGEE'09 conferenceThe D4Science project actively participated in the EGEE'09 conference held at the Hotel Barcelo Sants in Barcelona between the 21 and 25 September 2009. The conference was attended by more than 630 delegates from many different countries and focused on the future of grid computing in Europe and in particular the plans towards the new European Grid Initiative (EGI).

Five members of the D4Science consortium attended this international event, including the Project Director, the Technical Director, user community representatives and operational staff. They contributed to the conference agenda with 1) a Session and 2) a Demonstration.

8th TComThe 8th Technical Committee (TCom) meeting took place between the 14-18 of September 2009 in Budapest, Hungary. The meeting was organised by 4D SOFT Számítástechnikai Kft (4DSoft) at the Lions Garden Hotel in Budapest.



D4Science at the EGEE’09 Conference

EGEE'09 conferenceD4Science will actively participate in the EGEE’09 Conference that will take place at the hotel Barcelo Sants in Barcelona between 21-25 September 2009, with an expected participation of more than 600 delegates.

A demo on "A Virtual Research Environment for Species Distribution Map Generation and Management" will take place on Monday 21 September 2009 at 19:00 while on Tuesday 22 September 2009 at 11:00, there will be a session on "Deploying e-Infrastructures to enable multidisciplinary collaboration in Environmental Science".
