Environmental Monitoring

D4Science was present at the 4th GRID & e-Collaboration Workshop – Digital Repositories, which was hosted by ESA/ESRIN (Frascati, Italy) from 25-26 February 2009. The two day worshop focused on:

• Earth Science Digital Repositories;
• Data Management and Access in Digital Repositories;
• Emerging Standards for Interoperability of Earth Science Digital Repositories.

The information society in the world is at a nascent stage. It creates new conditions for youth in the present Digital Age and promotes the Elite Education for the next generation of young scientists and businessmen resulting in further economic growth by industrial competitiveness through research and technological innovation (RTD), in improving people health care and living standards.

The D4Science Service Activities team is pleased to announce the availability of the second version of the D4Science production infrastructure. This upgraded version supports a new scientific user community: the Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Management (FARM) represented by FAO and the WorldFish Center.

Three Virtual Organizations (VOs) are part of the infrastructure: the Environmental Monitoring (EM) user community has access to the EM VO while the FARM user community has access to the Fishery Country Profiles Production System (FCPPS) and Integrated Capture Information System (ICIS) VOs. With the availability of this infrastructure new Virtual Research Environments can now be created to satisfy the needs of the distributed scientific communities represented in the project.

The 4th GRID & e-Collaboration Workshop follows last years’ successful events covering Grid and e-Collaboration technologies and standards, highly relevant for today’s rapidly evolving e-Science infrastructures dedicated to Earth Science and Space applications.
