Peter YoungPeter Young

Peter R. Young is Chief of the Asian Division at the Library of Congress. He also leads development of the Library's stragegy for digital information related to science and technology. Peter Young directed the National Agricultural Library (NAL) from 2002 to 2008 and has held leadership positions at the Library of Congress from 1980 to 2002. From 1990 to 1997 he served as Executive Director of the U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS) In addition, his career includes leadership positions in academic research libraries and the private sector. Recent presentations include: “Challenges, Requirements, and Opportunities Facing U.S. Digital Libraries” at the Third Global Research Library – GRL 2020 Workshop at the Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan Feb 2009, “NAL and e-Science” at the Kanazawa Institute of Technology - Council on Library and Information Resources International Roundtable, in Kanazawa, Japan in July 2008; and “Transforming Knowledge Services for the Digital Age: Redefining the Research Library” at the Bibliotheek Wageningen UR Library, Wageningen, Netherlands in Feb 2008.

Sayeed ChoudhurySayeed Choudhury

Sayeed Choudhury is the Associate Dean for Library Digital Programs and Hodson Director of the Digital Research and Curation Center at the Sheridan Libraries of Johns Hopkins University. He is also the Director of Operations for the Institute of Data Intensive Engineering and Science (IDIES) based at Johns Hopkins. He is also a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins, a Research Fellow at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Senior Presidential Fellow with the Council on Library and Information Resources. Sayeed Choudhury serves as principal investigator for projects funded through the National Science Foundation, Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. He has oversight for the digital library activities and services provided by the Sheridan Libraries at Johns Hopkins University. Choudhury has published articles in journals such as the International Journal of Digital Curation, D-Lib, the Journal of Digital Information, First Monday, and Library Trends. He has served on committees for the Digital Curation Conference, Open Repositories, Joint Conference on Digital Libraries, and Web-Wise. He has presented at various conferences including Educause, CNI, DLF, ALA, ACRL, and international venues including IFLA, the Kanazawa Information Technology Roundtable and eResearch Australasia.

Serge Michel GarciaSerge Michel Garcia

Serge Michel Garcia holds a Doctorate in Sciences of the University of Marseille in France and specialized in shrimp population dynamics and tropical fisheries management. He worked in West Africa from 1968 to 1979 for the French Institute of Research for Development, IRD (formerly ORSTOM). He joined the FAO Fisheries Department in 1979 where he was successively responsible for West African fisheries resources, Head of the Marine Resources Service and Director of the Fisheries Management Division. He contributed, inter alia, to the conception and development of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and championed the precautionary and the ecosystem approaches to fisheries and the development of fisheries ethics. Serge Michel Garcia initiated the development of the Fisheries Global Information System (FIGIS) and conceived and led the development of the UN Atlas of the Oceans (http://www.oceansatlas.com). He retired from FAO in March 2007. He is a member of a number of Scientific Steering Committees and Boards of research institutions such as the French Institute for Research and Exploitation of the Sea (IFREMER), the Census of Marine Life (CoML), the Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS) and the European Bureau for Conservation and Development (EBCD).
